LEDs

Over the past ten years the power, colour range and luminous efficacy of LEDs has developed beyond recognition. As a result, the outstanding qualities of LEDs can now provide exciting solutions in an ever-increasing range of lighting applications.

Our designer - Jonty Savile, was involved as a consultant with Philips Lighting in the early stages of the set up of what is now Lumileds - the leading manufacturer of extremely high output LEDs. At the time Philips and Hewlett Packard were setting the company up, they were looking at alternative uses for the LEDs and he was brought in to advise on signage applications.

The benefits of LED lighting are many:

Low power consumption compared with conventional lighting

No ultra-violet output - the UV component of conventional lighting can cause damage to fabrics and delicate objects

Long lamp life - typically 50,000 hours without any deterioration in performance

Ecologically friendly - no toxic gasses and no glass or filaments to break

Flexibility of use - LEDs are typically much smaller than conventional light sources, therefore allowing for imaginative lighting designs to capitalize on the unobtrusiveness of the source

In addition, there are many different types of LEDs to suit all types of applications - from illuminating the outside of a building, to the discrete illumination of a display cabinet.
